Congo surveillance camps set up at city gates
DCO directs the Livestock Department officials to use anti-Congo spray on all animals being brought to the city
BAHAWALPUR/LAHORE:
The City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) has set up Congo surveillance camps at entry points to the city.
District Coordination Officer (DCO) Capt (r) Muhammad Usman has directed the Livestock Department officials to use anti-Congo spray on all animals being brought to the city.
Usman visited several of the surveillance camps on Monday. He said so far, over 24,000 animals had been sprayed at the camps. Lahore police and Livestock Department officers are deployed at these camps. He said that similar precautionary measures would be taken at all markets set up for the sale of sacrificial animals ahead of Eidul Azha.
In Bahawalpuir, the district administration has started a campaign against Congo virus. Livestock Department teams have sprayed 4,578 big and 3,448 small animals in this regard. Mobile teams have vaccinated 1,028 big and 746 small animals.
Livestock District Officer Syed Sibtain Shah said departmental teams were visiting cattle farms to create awareness about the virus.
He said the department had set up check posts at Channi Goth, Daawala and Kot Sabzal to vaccinate animals entering or leaving the city.
Separately, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz leader Ayesha Abdullah said on Monday the provincial government had allocated a large amount for health sector.
“Rs207 billion has been earmarked for health sector… which is 60 per cent more than last year,” she said. She said Rs24.5 billion had been reserve d for specialised healthcare; Rs5.2 billion for the restructuring of 36 DHQ and 15 THQ hospitals; Rs14 billion for the provision of free medicines; and Rs1.5 billion for extending health insurance cover to the poor.
