LAHORE: A 22-year-old woman was set alight allegedly by her brother in-law in Shadbagh on Saturday.

A police spokesman said 23-year-old Myra*, a resident of Shakargarh, had married Waqas Ali, a resident of Bhagatpura, two years ago.

He said on Friday, her brother-in-law Ali locked her in a room, poured petrol on her and set her alight. He then fled from the scene.

He said police had sent the body to the morgue for autopsy. Operations SP Muhammad Naveed said preliminary investigation suggested that the deceased had been engaged to him before her marriage to his brother.
