Inflation: Index rises by 16 per cent

The SPI showed an increase of 16.01 per cent as compared to the corresponding week of last year.

ISLAMABAD:
The Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the week ended February 3, for the combined income group, showed an increase of 16.01 per cent as compared to the corresponding week of last year.

SPI for the lowest income group up to Rs3,000 registered a decrease of 0.37 per cent over the previous week and stood at 296.25 points against 297.34 points, according to provisional figures released by the Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS).

The weekly SPI covers 17 urban centres and 53 essential items for all income groups. SPI for the combined group fell 0.37 per cent as it declined from 281.79 points in the previous week to 280.76 points in the week under review.


As compared to the last week, the SPI for income groups ranging from Rs3,001-5,000, Rs5,001-12,000 and above Rs12,000 decreased by 0.39 per cent, 0.39 per cent and 0.34 per cent respectively.

During the week, average prices of 11 items decreased, prices of 20 items increased and prices of 22 items remained unchanged.
