Independence Day: CM calls for action against one-wheeling
He reviewed security, traffic management plans for August 14

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Wednesday presided over a meeting to review security arrangements and traffic management for Independence Day celebrations.
“Nothing is more important than protection of lives and properties of citizens. Foolproof security should be ensured on August 14,” he said.
The chief minister said the district administration, police and law enforcement agencies should remain vigilant.
The chief minister said a crackdown should be launched against those involved in one-wheeling.
“Such stunts will not be tolerated,” he said.
He said special teams should be constituted to control one-wheeling.
“If there are complaints in this regard from any district, action will be taken against police officers concerned,” he said.
The chief minister said action should also be taken against underage driving.
“Police will have to play an active role to ensure supremacy of law. Effective measures should also be taken for traffic management in Lahore, Murree and other big cities on Independence Day.”
He said parking arrangements should also be ensured so that people did not face any difficulty in this regard.
Coal power
Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif also presided over a meeting which reviewed progress on the coal power plant in Sahiwal and the steps taken for supply of coal for the project.
Federal Minister for Water and Power Khawaja Muhammad Asif and Minister for Ports and Shipping Mir Hasil Khan Bizenjo were also present. Addressing the meeting, Sharif said work on the Sahiwal Coal Power Plant Project was progressing well.
“This 1,320 megawatt project will be completed well before the stipulated period,” he said.
“The speed and quality of the project are unprecedented,” he said.
He said supply of coal from Karachi would be ensured and necessary infrastructure for this purpose would be developed.
“This project truly represents the Pakistan-China friendship,” he said.
The chief minister also presided over a meeting which reviewed progress on supply of gas for the 3,600 megawatt gas power projects being set up across the province Punjab and the construction of a terminal.
The chief minister said the federal and the provincial government were jointly setting up 3600-megawatt gas power plants in the Punjab. He said the concerned federal and provincial departments would have to work in a coordinated manner to complete the projects in stipulated period.
“These projects are of paramount importance for ending the energy crisis,” he said.
