PESHAWAR:
The Peshawar High Court summoned the superintendent of Central Prison Peshawar to appear in court for locking Indian national Hamid Nehal Ansari in cell with dangerous prisoners.

The bench, consisting of Justice Musarrat Hilali and Justice Qalandar Ali, heard the case on Tuesday. Petitioner’s counsel Qazi Muhammad Anwar told the court that an inmate attacked him.

He added after the attack his client was kept in the barrack and then shifted to death cell and the superintendent then ordered to shift him to the hospital.

According to the counsel, he was neither shifted to the hospital nor given a secure place and was kept with dangerous prisoners.

Anwar said the Indian High Commissioner was in contact with him. Deputy Attorney General Musarratullah said if the Indian High Commissioner has any reservations, he should take up the issue with the government, instead of contacting Ansari’s lawyer.

“If he contacts Ansari’s counsel then it is his personal matter,” he said. Additional Advocate General Waqar said the jail superintendent should be summoned to explain the entire situation.

The same bench, while hearing writ petitions filed by candidates who failed the examination for civil judges in aggregates, allowed them to appear in interviews.

The candidates had failed in the written tests by a few numbers and as per Public Service Commission rules they were entitled to be given grace marks.

The bench asked the deputy advocate general if there was any judgment of the apex court or high court where students who failed in aggregate were given marks.

The DAG replied that interim relief was granted to a female to appear in interview, who then served as judge for 12 years. The bench  allowed the petitioners to appear in interviews.
