This device can turn your smartphone into a laptop for $99

The revolutionary technology is ready to hit retail stores by early next year

The Superbook is a revolutionary piece of technology which allows one to turn his smartphone into a laptop.

Have you ever desired to have all your technology needs fulfilled by your smartphone? Well, this desire may not just be the stuff of dreams anymore as a company called Andromium is working to make this a reality.

Andromium is a start-up headed by the alumni of Google and Y Combinator. The project, The Superbook, which has been launched on Kickstarter, is a laptop shell that turns your Android smartphone into a laptop. The shell comes equipped with a large screen, keyboard and multi-touch trackpad, 8+ hours of battery, and phone charging capabilities.

The campaign has managed to gather over $1.5 million to date, with 16 days left till the campaign comes to a close.

How much smarter are you than your smartphone, really?

The basic model which comes with a 1366x768 screen resolution will be available for $99. However, there are plans to release a higher resolution model with 1080p capability.

Andromium has said the model will cost about $30 extra, and that the upgrade will potentially reduce the device’s battery life by around an hour or so. The company behind the revolutionary technology has also pledged to upgrade the battery from 8 hours to 10 hours after full charge.

Andromium recommends that one's phone must have at least 1.5GB of RAM and a“dual-core processor” to run smoothly. It also needs to be on Android version 5.0 or higher and support the USB-OTG standard which most smartphones phones these days already do. Obviously, the higher the specs of the smartphone the better the overall experience.

The company hopes to start the shipments by the end of this month while the product is expected to hit retail stores by early next year.
