Reviving lost glory: Religious parties form Balochistan alliance

QUETTA: Right-wing parties in Balochistan have forged a new alliance on the pattern of the defunct Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal in an effort to overcome sectarianism and foster religious intolerance in the province.

The Ittehad-e-Millat-e-Islamia is a conglomerate of seven religious parties having representation in the province.

Jamiat-e-Ulema Islam’s (JUI-F) senior leader Maulana Mohammed Khan Sherani, who has been nominated as the head of the religious front, told the media that the alliance would strive for ending religious hatred in the province where sectarian violence has claimed the lives of hundreds of people.

Maulana Ali Ahmed Mohammed Abu Turab was nominated as its general-secretary and Maulana Abdul Haq Hashmi as senior vice-president at a meeting held at Jamia-e-Salfia.
