Building bridges: Fawad Khan looking for Indian talent
Actor wishes to promote cultural exchange between Pakistan and India
Resident heartthrob Fawad Khan – who has been working his magic on the Indian film industry for the past couple of years – has said that he hopes to see exchange of artists between the two countries flourish. In a recent interview with The Hindustan Times, the singer and actor said, “The exchange of talent is increasing slowly. I would like an active exchange of movies too.”
According to Fawad, it “would be great” to see Pakistani films released in India more often as well. “We have been working on films and actively looking for talent from the Indian film industry to work in Pakistani films,” stated the Kapoor & Sons actor. “Obviously, it will take some time. Hopefully, I will be one of the first ones to witness that change firsthand.”
Ever the patriot, Fawad has been playing his part in promoting collaborative projects across the border. “It is not just me who wishes for this. Film-makers such as Mahesh Bhatt and Mukesh Bhatt and actors like Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak Shah have all been trying to work in Pakistan” he said.
However, the actor maintains that the Indian film industry is far more credible than that of Pakistan’s, when it comes to technical expertise. “The Indian film industry has been around for more than 100 years now! So, it has far more credibility than the Pakistani film industry, which has witnessed a demise of sorts over the last 30 years,” explained Fawad. “I think the Pakistani film industry is getting back on to its feet now.”
