PESHAWAR:
A police constable was shot dead within the jurisdiction of Badabher police station in the city on Sunday.

A police official told The Express Tribune, Irfanullah, a resident of Mohalla Bin Ghazi, was posted at Frontier Reserve Police in Kohat but was on leave.

He added the deceased had struck up a friendship with a girl. “He had an affair with a girl,” the official said. “However, with the passage of time the rumours of their friendship spread like wildfire in the entire area.”  He added the brothers and parents of the girl came to know about the rumours and later discovered they were in a relationship.

The police official added, “The girl’s family met Irfanullah and proposed that he should marry her to put an end to the rumours but he refused to do so.”

As a result, the family of the girl threatened to kill Irfanullah for dishonouring the family.

“While Irfanullah was in Badabher, five accused opened fire,” he said. “He died on the spot.”

He added the deceased’s family had decided to nominate five people, including the father of the girl, her three brothers and her grandfather in the FIR. However, an FIR was yet to be registered, while the deceased’s body had been sent for an autopsy.
