Several suspects have been arrested during a search operation
SHABQADAR:
A security official was killed in an improvised explosive device (IED) blast in Upper Mohmand Agency near Pak-Afghan border on Saturday.
An official of the political administration told The Express Tribune three IED blasts occurred in Chamarkand bordering Bajaur Agency and Afghanistan.
“The security officials were passing through the area when an IED planted at a roadside went off,” he said. “As a result, Zahid, one of the security force official, was killed on the spot,” he maintained.
The body of the deceased was shifted to his native village for burial. However, soon after the incident, security forces conducted a search operation in the area and arrested several suspects. Meanwhile, Mohmand Agency administration will hold a jirga with tribal elders to promote peace in the region.
Earlier on July 19, at least three improvised explosive devices were defused in Mohmand Agency. Officials of the political administration of Mohmand told The Express Tribune an IED was planted in Pesha Kor Bazaar of Pandyali, which was later defused. On the other hand, two IEDs planted in Baizai Toora Bara were defused by the BDU of the security forces. A landmine blast also occurred in Sagi Safi area of the agency but no casualties were reported.
Similarly on June 18, two children were injured when an improvised explosive device went off in Lakhkar Kalay in Atmar Khel area of Baizai subdivision in Mohmand Agency, near the Pak-Afghan border.
An official of the political administration of Mohmand confirmed the incident, saying unidentified men planted an IED under a tree where locals rest during the day.
However, the device went off when children went near the tree to play early in the morning. Subsequently, two were injured. They were taken to the hospital in Peshawar where the condition of one of them is critical.
