Weight loss surgeries: Capital Hospital gets bariatric surgery unit

Symposium on obesity, metabolic surgery was also held at the hospital

ISLAMABAD: A bariatric surgery unit was inaugurated at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Hospital on Friday.

CDA Hospital Executive Director Dr Fayaz Lodhi said that the unit will facilitate obese people by providing weight loss surgeries. He said that obesity and associated medical problems such as diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea, and depression are challenges. He said that a professional and trained bariatric surgery team will carry out surgeries on morbidly obese patients at minimal costs.

A symposium on obesity and metabolic surgery was also held at the hospital.

American Board of Obesity Medicine’s Dr Nadia Ahmed highlighted the need of metabolic surgery and described different classes of obesity and their patho-physiology.Capital Hospital Head of Surgery Dr Naeem Taj highlighted surgical aspects of obesity and different cases of sleeve gastrectomy and its role in remission and cure of type 2 diabetes. He emphasised the need for trained surgeons, physicians, dieticians and psychologists to take care of the obese population.

Dr Tanseer Asghar presented cases of class-two obese patients who underwent laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy at Capital Hospital.
