BAHAWALPUR: A six-year-old was allegedly raped by a shopkeeper in Bahawalpur on Tuesday. The suspect also attacked her uncle with a knife for trying to catch him.

Police said Shahid, a resident of Naseerabad Colony, Bahawalpur, told them that his daughter had left the house at around 4pm to buy some household items at a shop in the neighbourhood. He said they got worried when she didn’t return for some time. Shahid said his brother Tahir went to inquire about the girl at the shop. He saw the shopkeeper Kamran Daya sexually assaulting the child.

Shahid said that Tahir raised a hue and cry and tried to grab the shopkeeper. He said Daya attacked Tahir with a knife and fled. The child and Tahir were taken to a hospital where they are both under treatment. Doctors there said their condition was serious.

Last week, a girl was allegedly raped by two men in a Khurarianwala police precinct. Akram Ali, an uncle of the victim, told The Express Tribune that his niece had been alone at her house in Chak 76-RB when two men from their neighbourhood climbed the roof of the house and entered it.

He said they raped her and abandoned her when she fainted. When her parents arrived, they found her lying unconscious, he said. They took her to a hospital. “The doctors have confirmed that she was raped. They have said her condition is stable. She is still being treated,” the uncle said.
