Anti-encroachment: Houses, cattle pens, shops destroyed

The district administration has launched a drive against encroachments on various embankments on River Chenab and has registered cases against ‘encroachers’. The decision was taken after the administration announced they were going to fortify embankments at head Muhammadwala, Akbar Embankment and Bund-Bosan. Saddar AC Ataul Haq and his crew arrived at the three embankments with heavy machinery. They razed scores of houses, shops and cattle pens there and registered cases against people who had encroached there. The assistant commissioner said they had warned the encroachers prior to the drive.
