USAID launches $600m project for flood affectees

In-charge USAID Program in Pakistan Dr Marlin Wyatt said on Sunday that American people stand by their Pakistani brothers in difficult times and would continue helping the rural population affected by floods.
“I can realize the problems of rural people as I myself belong to rural area,” she said while addressing a ceremony organized for sowing the sunflower seeds and distribution of relief cheques among growers under USAID program at village Mohammad Khan Palipota of Jati Taluka, 50km from Thatta.
She said that USAID has launched a 600 million dollar project for the rehabilitation of flood affected people of Pakistan under which Rs4,000 are being given to each grower besides seed and fertilizer.
Under the program 50,000 families would benefit and 100,000 acres of land could be cultivated, she added.
She hoped that growers would regain their economy under the USAID project and stand their own feet again.
US Council General Karachi William Martin and Secretary Agriculture Sindh Agha Akhtar Jan accompanied her.

WFP launches new project
The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) has started a Rs40 billion project of providing basic provisions to flood and terrorism victims of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
WFP Spokesperson Amjad Jamal said the purpose of the project is to provide health, education and other facilities to the people of the province. He also said that efforts are underway for the rehabilitation of flood affectees.
He asserted that WFP will also provide food to the people of Mohmand Agency affected by the army operation within two days. The spokesperson said that the body is satisfied with donor funding in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Fata.
