PPP Punjab sets Feb 7 as deadline for PML-N

PPP Punjab had earlier presented the PML-N with a 19-point agenda to improve workings in the province.

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab on Sunday set Monday, February 7, 2011 as the deadline for the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) to reply to the 19-point agenda that the PPP sent to it.

PPP provincial ministers will arrange token protests in front of the Punjab Assembly if the PML-N does not give a positive response, said sources. Hour-long protests are expected to take place every day after February 8, 2011.

Earlier, Punjab Senior Minister Raja Riaz Ahmed had told a press conference that the provincial parliamentary party of PPP had sent a 19-point agenda to the chief of PML-N Mian Nawaz Sharif for improving the performance of the Punjab government.

The PPP asked Sharif to remove corrupt provincial ministers whose portfolios were changed in the recent past over corruption and negligence charges. The party also demanded holding of local government elections as early as possible and action against officials responsible for failure of Sasti Roti and food stamp schemes.

This had come in the wake of the 10-points agenda that the PML-N had initially presented the PPP with along with a 45-day deadline.

Naveed Chandio | 13 years ago | Reply In a surprising turn of events, the PPP in Punjab have handed over a list of 19 points to be implemented by the PML-N led government in Punjab. It seemed till now that the PPP was only ever going to receive agendas to implement and that the right winged, PML-N and establishment paid media would only raise the matter to put pressure on the sitting government. PPP’s Senior Minister in the Punjab Government have given a laundry list to the PML-N. It may be noted that the 10-point agenda given by the the PML-N to the PPP led federal government is currently being delibrated upon with various meetings taking place. ON the other hand, the mouth of Faisalabad, Rana Sanaullah has already rapped the 19-point agenda. The points given by the PPP are very much implementable and under 100% control of the PML-N government. These are not related to “finishing ghurbat” or “ending corruption”, instead these are very much possible. But the question is, would it take these steps? More so, would the right wing media exert pressure on the PML-N! One doubts it.

This is the whole story behind the fight of "Two Bulls". People at the helm of the affairs must understand that we are Nuclear Powered country so please don't try to play with its destiny. We don't need Arab Pati or Crore Pati. We need someone from within us who knows ups and downs of common person. This time general elections must be fair with no interference from any ghosts or sleeper cells. Let people chose whom they want no matter whether Mullahs or Liberals. It must be decided for once and for ever so that the country moves forward.

Similarly ch. Nisar rants for hours against the govt's corruption etc but they back out when there is talk of no confidence vote,the reason? PMLN doesnt want to derail the system by which they mean/expect that they wouldnt be disturbed when its their turn i.e pehley thwadi tay fir saddi bari. vested interest on both sides.nawaz sharif is driving the last few nails in his party's casket

Syed A. Mateen | 13 years ago | Reply How long the Noora-Kushti will go on in the country? Instead of giving ‘Dead-line’ to each other, political leaders of PPP and PML(N) should watch PTV’s programme ‘Dateline’ to update their information and to gain knowledge from it.

Steven | 13 years ago | Reply This is part of the political process and should not only be allowed but encouraged. It is through such peaceful democratic fights within the system that our people will learn proper democracy. Fight, argue, debate and more but all within the system. Try to bring down the incumbant government and turn the public against them because this is the job of the opposition. Moroever it keeps the government in power honest and accountable. This is the way it's done in the West and hopefully this model will work in Pakistan.
