KARACHI:
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) former deputy information secretary of Karachi division Syed Manzoor Abbas passed away at the age of 50 on Saturday due to a heart attack.

His funeral prayers were offered at the Hussaini Sifarat Khana Imambargah in Malir and he was laid to rest at Wadi-e-Hussain graveyard off the Super Highway. Abbas was one of the founding members of the party and started his political career by joining its student wing.

During General Ziaul Haq's martial law, he was arrested and put in jail. He also served as president of the 121 city area, Malir and also worked as information secretary for District East. Before his death he was working as an active member of the PPP's media cell.


PPP chairperson Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, co-chairperson Asif Ali Zardari, chief minister Qaim Ali Shah and leader of opposition in the National Assembly Khursheed Shah expressed grief and sorrow over his demise and paid tribute to him for his sacrifices. "He was a brave jiyala who always stood by the party through thick and thin," said Bilawal in a statement.

Zardari said the PPP leadership and workers shall never forget such committed and hardworking party members who struggled for democracy.
