Corruption charges: XEN among four LESCO officials held

 

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has arrested four officials including an EXN of the Lahore Electric Supply Company on corruption charges.

The accused, identified as Azizur Rehman, Ahmed Shahzad, Muhammad Naeem and Shafqat Mahmood, were arrested on allegations of misuse of authority, illegal gratification and corruption and corrupt practices, said a press release issued by the anti-graft body on Saturday.

According to NAB, LESCO Sheikhupura XEN Rehman, in connivance with other officials, misused his authority and sent inflated electricity bills to Flying Paper Mill.


After a complaint was filed by the mill’s owner, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority also ruled in favour of the complainant.

Furthermore, the accused demanded illegal gratification for adjustment of the bills. The accused will be charged with misuse of authority and indulging in corrupt practices.

The accused will be produced before an accountability court for obtaining their physical remand.
