LAHORE: United States Consul General in Lahore Zachary Harkenrider and Additional Auditor General of Pakistan Javaid Jehangir on Friday inaugurated the opening session of a three-day workshop on audits of various development projects funded by the US Agency for International Development (USAID).

The workshop was jointly organised by the Department of Auditor General of Pakistan (DAGP) and the USAID through its Assessment and Strengthening Programme.

Speaking on the occasion, Consul General Harkenrider noted that the partnership between the USAID and the Department of Auditor General of Pakistan would result in effective implementation of various USAID-funded development projects.

Additional Auditor General Javaid Jehangir vowed to strengthen the partnership in accordance with the department’s mission of promoting accountability, transparency and good governance in management and use of public resources.

The purpose of the workshop is to develop a common understanding on financial management requirements and procedures for audits of USAID-funded projects in Pakistan.

Senior representatives from the DAGP, USAID’s Office of Inspector General, project directors of various USAID projects and 35 auditors from the DAGP are attending the workshop.

The three-day workshop will conclude on July 23.
