SI, traffic police constable succumb to injuries at LRH
Were shot earlier in July; constable shot dead by proclaimed offender in Charsadda
PESHAWAR/CHARSADDA:
After staying at Lady Reading Hospital for seven days in an unconscious state, sub-inspector (SI) of Special Branch Hidayat Khan succumbed to his injuries on Friday morning.
Sher Ali, a traffic police constable, also succumbed to his injuries at the facility on Friday evening. Another police constable was killed by a proclaimed offender and suspect during a raid within the jurisdiction of Nissata police station in Charsadda on the same day.
Targeted
Hidayat was shot and injured by unidentified men in Wazir Colony within the jurisdiction of Faqirabad police station on July 16.
He was a resident of Rajar village in Charsadda but had been living in Qazi Kalay, Faqirabad in Peshawar. He was on his way to work at Peshawar High Court (PHC) when assailants opened fire on him.
Ali was on his way home when the assailants opened fire on him in Bashirabad within the jurisdiction of Michni Gate police station on July 14.
He was a resident of Sandu Garhi and had been performing his duty as the driver for a traffic police squad.
During raid
According to an official of Nissata police station, Khadim Hussain, along with other policemen, acted on a tip-off and raided a house in Hajiabad early Friday morning. They were told Shoaib Khan, a proclaimed offender, was taking shelter there along with another suspect.
During the raid, Shoaib and his accomplice opened fire on the police party, injuring Hussain. He was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital Charsadda where he succumbed to his injuries.
Later, other police officials reached the spot and cordoned off the area. A search operation was also launched but the assailants had not been caught yet. The owner of the house where Shoaib and his accomplice had taken refuge was arrested.
The funeral of the slain police official was held at Charsadda police lines and he was laid to rest in Tarnab.
At least 23 people have been killed and one of them injured in target killing incidents that have taken place in Peshawar alone this year.
