As if Melania Trump plagiarising Michelle Obama's 2008 speech at the Republican National Convention (RNC) on Monday wasn't enough, a Donald Trump supporter who also spoke at the convention thinks US President Barack Obama is Muslim.

Actor, former Calvin Klein underwear model and reality show star Antonio Sabato Jr, who featured as a prime-time speaker at the RNC told ABC News that he 'absolutely' believes President Barack Obama is a Muslim.

The actor, who is best known for his role on the show General Hospital, said, "We had a Muslim president for 7 1/2 years. I don't believe he is [a Christian]."

"This guy made it really hard for me to support him," he said about Obama, saying that the president entered office with an agenda to move the country to the left.

“I don’t believe the guy is a Christian,” Sabato said. “I don’t believe the guy follows the God that I love and the Jesus that I love. If you follow his story, if you understand about Obama, I mean, that’s not a Christian name, is it?”

He added that police officers and the military didn't like Obama and implied that he was not American. "I believe that he's on the other side ... the Middle East," Sabato told ABC News. "He's with the bad guys."

Further, he added that he was not concerned about vocally supporting Trump in liberal-leaning Hollywood and didn't care if that caused people to judge him. Trump, who spearheaded the birther movement, repeatedly questioned whether the president is an American and if he is a Muslim. However, Obama has repeatedly said that he is a Christian.

29% of Americans believe Obama is Muslim: poll

Only a few weeks ago, a Fox News host fuelled rumours regarding Obama’s religion. In his show The O’Reilly Factor on Wednesday, Bill O’Reilly shared some old photos of Barack Obama claiming they were from his half-brother Malik’s wedding.

The Fox News host said it was ‘very difficult’ to verify the exact location of the photographs, a similar set of which were first released back in 2004 by Malik, but claimed they were taken in Maryland in the early 1990s.

Using the photos, O’Reilly alleged that the president’s ‘deep emotional ties to Islam’ have stopped him effectively combating Islamic State (IS). He further added that the photos prove that President Obama was not a ‘devout Christian’.

Needless to say, Sabato received some flak for his comments.
