ISLAMABAD: As part of investigations into a multibillion-rupee scam in the Defence Housing Authority (DHA), the country’s top graft buster has issued arrest warrants for Kamran Kayani, brother of former army chief Gen (retd) Ashfaq Pervez Kayani, it was learnt on Monday.

Kamran, who has failed to respond to repeated summons for questioning, is believed to have left the country. The warrants are part of the process to secure perpetual arrest warrants which eventually lead to red notices from Interpol.

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) also issued warrants for the management of Elysium Holdings Pakistan Limited for illegally selling allotment certificates of the DHA Islamabad and other housing projects.

“The inquiry so far conducted reveals that Kamran is involved in… corruption and corrupt practices under National Accountability Ordinance 1999 along with other accused in the case,” reads the preamble of the ‘ground for arrest’ document available with The Express Tribune.

According to the document, Waseem Aslam Butt, a former CEO of Elysium Holdings told officials that Kamran was the actual owner of the company. He further claimed that Elysium Holdings Pakistan Ltd is a subsidiary of Elysium Holdings Middle East which is registered in JAFZA, Dubai.

Investigations suggest that Kamran was one of the directors of the company when it was first formed.“He, in connivance with others, with mala fide intentions and in order to shield himself, resigned from the directorship of the company and subsequently remained attached with its affairs through Waseem Aslam Butt. Presumably the contract agreement between the parties has been signed on the behest of Kamran Kayani,” the document reads.

Banking records show that Kamran continued his association with financial affairs of the company.

A NAB investigator stated in the document that Kamran’s arrest is vital for the investigations to proceed further.

Rehmat Ali | 7 years ago | Reply Army personals should not involved in such DHA plots business. Its ruining their reputation in eyes of normal public. All good locations of Karachi are captured by DHA. For normal people only far away, remote and less developed areas are left to live.
