HYDERABAD/KARACHI:
The legal fraternity started on Monday a three-day boycott of legal proceedings in Karachi and Hyderabad to protest the kidnapping of the son of the Sindh High Court (SHC) chief justice and the arrest of a lawyer in a robbery case.

The representatives of the SHC Bar Association, Karachi Bar Association and Malir District Bar Association had given on Saturday a call for a three-day province-wide protest over the failure of the law enforcement agencies to safely recover Barrister Ovais Ali Shah, who was kidnapped by unknown armed men outside Agha's Supermarket in Clifton on June 20.

The SHC, district, sessions, civil and other courts in Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Nawabshah divisions all wore a deserted looks as lawyers did not turn up to plead their cases fixed for the day. The judges remained in their chambers to hear urgent cases.

A number of litigants faced difficulty as lawyers had stayed away from the proceedings. Meanwhile, the prison authorities did not shift any prisoners to the courts.
