The Express Tribune takes a look back at significant numbers which made notable headlines through the match

KARACHI: Pakistan defied all odds and defeated favourites and hosts England by 75 runs to win the first Test at Lord’s on Sunday to go one-nil up in the four-match series.

Amid all the excitement, the drama and the push-ups, there were numerous records broken and new ones created. The Express Tribune takes a look back at all the significant numbers which made notable headlines through the four-day of sublime cricket action.

It was the first time in Lord’s history, where two bowlers (England’s Chris Woakes and Pakistan’s Yasir Shah) finished the match with a 10-wicket haul.



Yasir Shah received his first Test career man of the match award, and that too in his first appearance at the ‘home of cricket’.

Even though he was awarded the man of the series award twice in his short Test career, the spin maestro never managed to receive the best player of the match award in the past.  He finished the match with the figures of 10-141 in two innings, which also included a six-wicket haul in the first innings.



The Swabi-born also became the first Pakistani bowler to pick up 10 wickets in a Test match at Lord’s cricket ground. The 30-year-old also recorded best bowler figure by a Pakistani bowler on the venue, where he surpassed former Pakistan fast-bowler and head coach Waqar Younis, who had the figures of eight for 154 back in 1996.

Yasir Shah also bagged the best bowling figures by an Asian bowler on one of the most prestigious cricket venues in the world.



Shah recorded the best ever figures by a leg-spinner on this venue.



Misbahul Haq became first Pakistan captain who scored a hundred and a duck in the same Test.



10-wicket haul by Shah is the best figures by a Pakistani bowler in his maiden Test on English soil. The record was previously held by right-arm fast-bowler Asif Masood, when he picked nine for 160 in Birmingham in 1971.



This was team Pakistan’s fourth win at Lord’s in 14 Test matches, which gives them the third best win/loss ratio at the venue behind England (1.64) and Australia (2.42).



Misbah became fourth Pakistan captain after Imran Khan (1982), Javed Miandad (1992) and Wasim Akram (1996) to lead the team to victory at Lord's.



It was the first time in four years that a Test in England finished without a six.



Yasir Shah has dismissed England’s Jonny Bairstow five times in six innings, bowled four and lbw once.



Shah recorded sixth-best figures by a spinner at Lord’s after England’s Hedley Verity (15 for 104), Derek Underwood (13 for 71), Roy Tattersall (12 for 101), John Briggs (11 for 74 ) and West Indies’ Sonny Ramadhin (11 for 152).



Middle-order batsman Asad Shafiq became the ninth player in the history of Test cricket to score more than 2,500 runs at sixth position in the batting order. He also has the joint highest number of centuries (8) at number six alongside West Indian great Gary Sobers.



England all-rounder Chris Woakes finished the match with the best figures in a losing cause at Lord’s (11-102). The previous best was from New Zealand’s Tim Southee, when he took 10-108 against England in 2013.



With the victory, Misbahul Haq became the joint-second most successful Asian captain alongside India’s Sourav Ganguly with 21 Test victories.



It was the first time in more than four decades when a spinner took a 10-wicket haul at Lord's. Previously, it was England’s Derek Underwood, who took 13 for 71 against Pakistan in 1974.



Yasir Shah has taken 86 wickets after 13 Tests, which is the most by any bowler at this stage of their career in 139 years of Test cricket.



Pakistan became the joint most successful Asian Test team alongside India. However, Pakistan achieved 127 victories in 396 Tests, whereas India achieved it in 495 matches.
