Separately, police arrest political worker for rival’s murder seven years ago

More than a dozen personnel of the Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC) of the Karachi police are being investigated for their alleged involvement in a kidnapping case.
An inquiry has been ordered against the ACLC Sharifabad team, headed by SHO Javed Chaudhry, over their involvement in a kidnapping case. The cops are accused of kidnapping a property dealer hailing from Jacobabad. Abdul Haq claimed he had been kidnapped along with three business partners from Saddar on July 12.

He claimed that they were later shifted to ACLC, Sharifabad, where the policemen detained them for at least three days. “The cops threatened to kill us in a fake encounter or implicate us in false cases if we failed to pay the ransom amount,” explained the victim.
Haq further said that he had arrived in the city to buy some property and had stayed along with his partners at a guesthouse in Saddar. “We were sitting at a restaurant in Saddar for dinner when nearly 15 ACLC personnel, four of them uniformed, came in a mobile van and two private cars,” he said. According to him, the officials blindfolded them, took them to their guesthouse and demanded cash and other belongings. “Later they frequently threatened us to not to tell anyone about the incident before releasing us,” he claimed.
Following the incident, Sindh IG AD Khawaja took notice of the incident and ordered the Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) DIG to inquire into it. The inquiry is under way.

The Federal B Industrial Area police claim to have arrested a political worker for his involvement in the targeted killing of a rival political party’s worker in Orangi Town about seven years ago. The accused, Dr Rasheed, son of Muhammad Siddique, was arrested during a raid conducted on a tip-off near Shafiq Morr. Police said the accused was wanted to the police for killing a local leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party. “
Dr Rasheed is affiliated with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and was a sector member of the party for Orangi Town,” claimed Federal B Industrial Area SHO inspector Naeem Khan. “The accused was wanted at the Pakistan Bazaar police station for dual murder cases, including the murder of PPP local leader Salam alias Salamu.” Salam was shot and killed by unidentified motorcyclists in 2009 in Pakistan Bazaar area of Orangi Town.

Meanwhile, the Rangers claimed to have arrested at least seven suspects during on-going targeted raids and operations in different parts of the city.
According to a Rangers spokesperson, the arrests were made during targeted raids, operations and routine checking in different parts of the city, including Sohrab Goth, Shah Faisal Colony and Korangi.
The spokesperson said that four Afghan nationals living illegally in the city are also among the detainees. Arms and ammunitions were also recovered from their possession.
