Shahbaz suspends parking company chief

No progress made in improving existing facilities or providing new facilities: CM

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday expressed dissatisfaction over the performance of the Lahore Parking Company (LPC) and directed that its chief executive officer be suspended from service for his failure to ensure provision of proper parking facilities in the city.

He was addressing a meeting of the LPC’s board of directors through video link.

The chief minister said that no substantial progress had been made in the last one-and-a-half years in either improving existing parking facilities or providing new facilities including parking plazas. He said there had been no progress in construction of plazas even at the sites already identified for the purpose.

Sharif said the purpose of establishing the parking company was to improve parking facilities in the city. He said his mission was to facilitate the masses and he would not tolerate any negligence in this regard.

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the pace of work on automation of parking facilities. He said the LPC authorities had been fully empowered to perform their duties but they had failed to deliver.

He directed the officials concerned to improve their performance and to ensure provision of quality parking facilities in the city.

Adviser to the CM Khwaja Ahmed Hassaan, MPA Hafiz Muhammad Nauman, the local government secretary, the Lahore division commissioner, the Lahore DCO and the LDA director general were also present on the occasion.

Probe sought into misappropriation of medicines from DHQ Sheikhupura

Separately, Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif directed the officials concerned to ensure that medicines procured for government hospitals reached the patients. He said misappropriation of drugs procured for the purpose would not be tolerated. He stressed the need for automation of the system of supply of medicines to public hospitals. Steps should be taken on emergent basis for the purpose, he added.

He said the government had to deliver on its commitment to the people about improvements in the healthcare sector and strict action would be taken against officials found negligent in performance of their duties.

The chief minister also formed an inquiry committee, headed by Chief Minister’s Inspection Team chairman and comprising officers from the Police and the Health Departments, to probe apparent misappropriation of medicines at the district headquarters (DHQ) hospital in Sheikhupura. He said the committee should submit a preliminary report on the matter in 48 hours.


He said those involved in stealing medicines procured for public hospitals should be given exemplary punishments. He said it was impossible to steal medicines without collusion of hospital staff. He said the suspect had been serving in the hospital for one-and-a-half year as an honorary dispenser and yet no one took notice of his actions. He said action should also be taken against the medical superintendent on whose orders the suspect had been appointed. The then MS should immediately be suspended from the office he was serving in at present.

Sharif also sought immediate removal from service of all staff serving in hospitals on honorary basis. He directed the DCOs concerned to regularly monitor arrangements at hospitals.

Advisor to CM on Health Khwaja Salman Rafique, Parliamentary Health Secretary Khwaja Imran Nazir, the Chief Secretary and the Inspector General of Police were also present on the occasion.

Korean Ambassador meets CM

Korean Ambassador in Pakistan Suh Dong Gu called upon Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday. The two leaders exchanged views on matters of mutual interest including promotion of cooperation in education, health and skill development sectors.

Speaking on the occasion, Sharif said the two countries enjoyed strong ties. He stressed the need for further strengthening economic and trade relations.

He said Korea had made unprecedented progress in a short period of time. He said Pakistan was also on the road to progress and prosperity under the leadership of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. He said the law and order situation in the country had improved significantly.

Sharif also met a delegation of a prominent Korean construction company, Mooyoung, led by its chairman Kil-Won An.

He said the provincial government had secured the services of a prominent Korean construction company as consultant for the establishment of the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Transplant Institute. He said the vast experience of the company in hospital construction would be beneficial for successful implementation of the project.
