Weather update: Thunderstorm ruled out for city
KARACHI:
Meteorological (Met) department put to rest the prediction that a thunderstorm would hit the city during the second spell of monsoon rains.
A heavy thunderstorm was expected to hit Karachi but the second spell of the monsoon season is almost over, informed Met department director Abdul Rashid, adding that there will be no heavy rainfall but light showers are expected in some parts of the city.
Two days ago, reports surfaced that the city will experience a thunderstorm with heavy rainfall. "The scenario was slightly different [then]. The rain forecast showed that the monsoon rain will occur due to low pressure system moving from east towards west," he said while speaking to The Express Tribune.
"However, on Wednesday morning this system moved towards Arabian Sea in the south-west direction and it eventually died down."
Even though the second spell of this year's monsoon season has ended, the season will continue till September 15, he added.
