Gearing up: Drosh residents migrate to safer areas amid heavy rain
Land erosion in Mastuj leaves three houses damaged
CHITRAL:
Residents of Drosh, Chitral migrated to safer areas as heavy rainfall lashed parts of Chitral on Thursday.
According to locals, rainwater had accumulated at their houses overnight and wreaked considerable damage.
Flooding in Zyarat resulted in the disruption of traffic flow for a few hours. Locals claimed that a rise in temperature has resulted in the melting of glaciers.
Saifur Rehman, a social activist from Mastuj, told The Express Tribune two houses were swept away in the flood.
“However, the inhabitants managed to escape unhurt,” he said.
Rehman added people who have been evacuated from the affected areas do not have proper shelter. He said the government failed to provide any safety measures in the area in spite of several requests made to them for the installation of safety fences.
Meanwhile, land erosion in Kargin, Mastuj left three houses damaged. Mastuj Additional Assistant Commissioner Muhammad Saleh visited the area and provided tents and other food items to the affectees.
Tents and food items are also being supplied to Golen for stockpiling. A flood awareness seminar was organised in Booni and local village councillors, nazims and tehsil councillors participated in the seminar.
Chitral DC Usama Ahmad Warraich, visited Golen Gol project, Golen village and adjoining areas, according to a handout issued by the information department. Warraich visited these areas to inspect preparations for floods.
