KARACHI: All 2,000 non-teaching staff and 650 teachers serving at 53 departments and 20 research centres and institutes at University of Karachi have been asked to submit their leave records, according to a notification issued by the registrar office on Wednesday.

Registrar Dr Moazzam Ali Khan has asked all section and departmental heads to submit the leave record after the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh) directed all government offices and institutions to disband offices of all political and militant organisations and weed out ghost employees.

"Orders were given to collect the leave details after the Rangers' step to terminate ghost employees recruited on political grounds," Khan told The Express Tribune.

He also informed that the registrar or administration offices of the university do not have the complete leave details as the casual leaves are approved at the departmental level.

As per the directives issued by the Rangers, all section heads are directed to submit the leave record of employees not coming for their duties and absconding without prior approval or intimation, stated the notification. It further states that the required information is to be sent to the registrar office by July 18.

"Rangers have not separately asked the university to collect any leave details from its employees but we are doing it proactively as they have asked all governmental institutions to do so," said Khan, adding that this is a good chance to recognise the ghost employees in their own system.
