KARACHI:
The Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) suspended on Monday senior leader Amir Khan from the party's policy-making body, the Rabita Committee.

According to sources, Amir, who is currently in Dubai, was suspended due to reservations of party supremo Altaf Hussain.

No official statement was issued by the party till the filing of this report.

On June 14, an anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted permission to the MQM leader Amir Khan to travel abroad.

MQM decries ‘extrajudicial’ killing of worker

Amir's attorney had argued that two of the applicant’s sons were studying in Dubai and since he was financing their education and living expenditures; needed to make the visit.

The MQM leader is accused of harbouring criminals and instigating terrorism. He was implicated in the case after being arrested, along with some convicted and absconding suspects, during the pre-dawn March 11 raid at the party’s headquarters, Nine Zero.

On Saturday, the MQM protested alleged extrajudicial killing of another party worker, Riazul Haq whom they said Rangers picked up from his residence in Landhi on May 19 last year, but he was never produced in any court of law.

Amir Khan allowed to travel to Dubai

The law enforcement agencies including the paramilitary force have been involved in a campaign since 2013 to purge the city of criminal elements.

The drive has invited criticism from MQM who accuse Rangers of directing their raids only towards them and forcefully disappearing their workers.
