ISLAMABAD:
Memorials, prayers and candlelight vigils were organised by residents of Islamabad to pay their respects to Abdul Sattar Edhi.

As was the case across the rest of the country, national flag was flown at half-mast on public buildings in the federal capital too on Sunday.

Sunday, the day of Edhi’s qul, was marked with prayers, memorials and vigils.

A Quran khwani was held and prayers were offered by the orphans housed at the Edhi Centre in I-8. They while talking to The Express Tribune said that it seemed to them after Edhi’s passing that they had lost a parent once again.

Meanwhile, Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Party leader Allama Nasir Abbas hosted a prayer, along with party members, to honour and pray for the soul of the departed.

Officials of the Attock Tehsil Municipal Authority also expressed their sorrow at Edhi’s death.

Tehsil Municipal Officer Aftab Ahmed highlighted Edhi’s achievements within Pakistan, as well as internationally, and said that while he might be gone, Edhi would never be forgotten.

PML-Nawaz Senator Muhammad Saleem Shahzad insisted that the youth should be taught Edhi’s story so that they could seek inspiration and emulate him.
