Panama papers: Govt promoting corruption says Sarwar

He accused the government of failing to honour the commitment made to the people before the 2013 elections

LAHORE:
Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) leader Chaudhry Sarwar said on Sunday there would be no need for staging protest demonstrations if the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz-led government resolved the issue of terms of reference for probing the Panama Papers scandal. Speaking at his office, Sarwar said the government’s stubbornness forced the opposition to take to the streets. PTI chief Imran Khan has said he will announce party’s future strategy regarding the issue on July 20. “The government has been implementing a policy that promotes corruption in the country. The PTI is fighting the war to protect the country [from corruption],” Sarwar said. He accused the incumbent rulers of delaying the process of accountability. Sarwar said accountability should start from the prime minister. “Instead of criticising its political rivals, the government should be open to accountability,” the PTI leader said. He accused the government of failing to honour the commitment made to the people before the 2013 elections.
