The soyem of renowned philanthropist, celebrated humanitarian and the icon of social and welfare service, Abdul Sattar Edhi, who died late on Friday night, is being held at Karachi’s Memon Masjid in the old city area, Express News reported.

Hundreds of people belonging to different walks of life are attending the soyem of the humanitarian who was given a state funeral before he was laid to rest on Saturday as thousands attended his funeral prayers.

Abdul Sattar Edhi passes away in Karachi

According to reports, stringent security measures have been taken to provide security in the old city area of the metropolis, where Rangers and police personnel are deployed to avoid any untoward incident.

Edhi was buried in Edhi village as per his last wish as his funeral prayers were offered after Zuhr prayers following a guard of honour and a gun salute by the Pakistan Army.

His coffin, wrapped in the green national flag and covered with pink rose-petals, was carried on a military jeep into the national stadium in Karachi where there was a guard of honour as thousands paid tribute. Security officials said that a 21-gun salute was also offered.

Edhi has been nominated several times for the Nobel Peace Prize, and appears on the list again this year — put there by Malala Yousafzai, Pakistan’s teenage Nobel laureate.

NDA | 8 years ago | Reply It is not sufficient to just condole the death of Sattar Edhi. These political leaders are cashing on the sorrow and grief of people and Sattar's family. What is needed is that politicians and leaders establish an " Endowment " and allocate funds and lands for steady and consistent income for charitable services of Sattaer Edhi Trust. Mere naming a road or street does not mean anything.
Zaidi, Iqbal Hadi | 8 years ago | Reply DEAD but ALIVE is the right suitable expression to pay due respect to Br Edhi who though was a man like you and me but much higher than we to be honest and if not annoying. How did he start and where he ended up simply cannot be scaled and I am not hesitant and or reluctant to pronounce that whatever he has done none could do alike right from east to west and south to north proves he was unparalleled? Unluckily being continually overseas since 1976, I did not know much about him but now when I read and saw which is flashed, at one stage, (seeing him as a beggar) tears rolled down my eyes and I had to wipe them off to continue the reading. He donated his both eyes which yesterday have been implanted at SIUT and the two unfortunate who were blind can now see like you and me very well documents that even though he is dead and buried but still serving the humanity like before. I conclude by repeating that Br Edhi is DEAD but ALIVE. Iqbal Hadi Zaidi / Kuwait / zaidi4merdiplomat@hotmail.com
