Security forces in Balochistan raided and searched more than 50 houses of the Mengal tribesmen late Sunday night.

Two central committee members of the Balochistan National Party, Mir Bahadur Khan Mengal and Mir Khurshid Jamaldini, addressed a news conference at the Naushki Press Club on Monday to complain about the crackdown.

They alleged the forces had fired blank aerial shots at midnight that scared the local population of Killi Mengal.


The forces surrounded the whole settlement of Killi Mengal without any warning and resorted to a door-to-door search operation, they said.

The BNP leaders said the houses of former Balochistan governor Mir Amirul Mulk Mengal and renowned revolutionary poet late Mir Gul Khan Naseer were also searched.

The BNP also announced it would stage a protest outside the Quetta Press Club against the alleged highhandedness of the authorities.
