Kuwait conflagration: Three bodies brought back

The bodies of three members of a family from Mian Channu, Khanewal district, who had died in a fire in Kuwait, arrived in Lahore on Monday. The bodies were then taken to Mian Channu for burial.

Nasreen Akhtar, Rehana Kausar and six-year-old Mehad were among nine residents of Mian Channu who had died in a conflagration in Kuwait that had engulfed the building they had lived in. Muhammad Asif, his wife, sons Muhammad Umar and Muhammad Hamza, two daughters Javeria and Areej, Asif’s mother Nasreen Akhtar, his sister-in-law and nephew had died.

Nine Pakistanis killed in Kuwait fire


The remaining bodies were buried in Kuwait after the authorities said they had been charred so badly that they could not be identified. The bodies that could be identified were brought to Lahore on Pakistan International Airlines flight PK-206. Punjab Overseas Pakistanis Director Rai Mubashar handed over the bodies to Malik Shamshad, a member of the family.

The incident took place in Farwaniya, a city in Kuwait, on June 30. The fire had erupted because of an electric short circuit. Muhammad Asif’s brother, Muhammad Tariq was severely injured and is still said to be in critical condition. The family had been living in Kuwait since 2001.
