FINANCIAL CONSTRAINTS: HDA lays off hundreds of workers
HYDERABAD:
In a massive layoff of the surplus workforce, the Hyderabad Development Authority (HDA) ended the contracts of some 577 staff members from the HDA and its subsidiaries, including the Water and Sanitation Agency. HDA has been facing a financial crisis due to excessive employment, for the last several years, Hyderabad division commissioner Qazi Shahid Pervez, who also holds the acting charge of HDA director-general, confirmed. “It will be wrong to give it a political or any other colour,” he clarified, when asked if the development is related to the Rangers’ recommendation to the Sindh government for removal of government staff who work for political and militant groups.
