Monsoon rains: FPCCI concerned over lack of preparation
KARACHI:
Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FPCCI) Senior Vice President Sheikh Khalid Tawab has expressed concern over the lack of preparation for monsoon rains in Karachi by the Sindh government.
“Initial damages have revealed inefficiencies and mismanagement of the civil amenities departments, which did not undertake any pre-emptive measures despite the meteorological department’s repeated forecasts and warnings of heavy rains in the current monsoon season,” he said in a press release. As a result, he said the roads were inundated, with sewerage and rain water accumulated everywhere, creating unhygienic conditions and hurdles to the smooth traffic flow in the city.
“There were also power cuts reported in the city lasting over 48 hours that affected supply of water.”
