KARACHI:
The central leadership of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh Zone, Azad Jammu and Kashmir jumped ship on Sunday to join the rival Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in the presence of Senator Saeed Ghani and chief minister's special assistant Rashid Rabbani.

Among those who joined the PPP are PTI Sindh AJK vice-president Nadeem Awan, Insaaf Tiger Force Sindh Zone AJK president Sardar Zohaib Sadozai, Insaaf Tiger Force Sindh Zone AJK vice-president Muhammad Sadiq, Insaaf Tiger Force Jamshed Town Sindh Zone AJK president Sardar Naveed and a number of other workers.

PTI Sindh Zone AJK president Sardar Zulfiqar Ali joined PPP last week in Islamabad and said that PTI never comes up to the expectations of workers, who are the actual assets of any political party. "There is no value of workers in PTI and the party is alive only through media and that's the reason for leaving the party," he said.

Ali added that the PPP would win the upcoming AJK elections since it is the most popular party in the area.

He claimed that more workers and office bearers of PTI Sindh Zone would join PPP after Eidul Fitr.

While addressing a press conference, Ghani said his party has done a lot for the people of Kashmir during their five-year tenure. He added that in the education sector alone, the PPP has established five universities and three medical colleges in AJK, a region that only had a single university before the PPP government came into power in 2011.

He said the PPP has nominated candidates in all constituencies of AJK. Rival political parties are propagating the wrong image that PPP candidates have left the party, whereas there is no reality in the statement, he clarified. According to Ghani, those who have left the party were independent candidates who won in 2011 and later joined the PPP-led government.

He pinpointed that the federal government is involved in pre-poll rigging in Kashmir by spending funds of Rs250 million in each constituency. He claimed that the Pakistan Television also favours the ruling party during its coverage of the area. "If this continues we will summon PTV officials in the upcoming Senate session," he vowed.

On the return of PPP chief Asif Ali Zardari, Ghani said he is receiving medical treatment and will definitely return to Pakistan if his party workers insist on it. He said the same issue persisted when Bilawal Bhutto Zardari was not in the country and rivals of the PPP spread propaganda against the party. The PPP is doing well under the leadership of Bilawal, he added further.
