PESHAWAR: The construction of Bhasha Dam should be expedited as it will be more feasible in putting an end to the energy crisis.

This was said by Qaumi Watan Party Chairperson Aftab Ahmad Khan Sherpao.

According to a statement issued on Saturday, Sherpao flayed Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairperson Shakeel Durrani for adopting a favourable stance towards Kalabagh Dam.

Sherpao was quoted as saying the Wapda chairperson’s views on the matter were politically motivated.

“The issue was being used as a gimmick for the next election,” the document quoted Sherpao as saying. “The assemblies of three provinces had already passed resolutions against this controversial project.

As a result, infusing a new lease of life into the issue would create disharmony among the federation and its units.”

The QWP chief said the construction of Kalabagh Dam will be detrimental to the interests of locals.

“The dam will submerge Peshawar and bring destruction in the area,” he added.
