Once and for all: ‘I’m guarded about my personal life’

‘Student of the Year’ actor Sidharth Malhotra wants to let his work do the talking

NEW DELHI: Bollywood actor Sidharth Malhotra shared he prefers to be guarded about his personal life and lets his work do the talking.

Coming from a non-film background, the Kapoor & Sons star revealed how difficult it is for an actor to thrive in the entertainment industry, where there is cut-throat competition every day.

Asked why he remains reserved about his personal life, Sidharth said, “I am here for my work and my work speaks to my audience. At home, I am a private person and I like keeping it that way. Maybe that is why I come out as being guarded about my personal life.”

Appreciation, however, motivates him to work harder. “Since I started my career in Bollywood as an assistant director, I had the knowledge about how films are made and the kind of efforts that go into making one. The past four years in the industry have been spectacular.” The Ek Villain star started out as a crew member of Karan Johar’s 2010 film My Name Is Khan.



In his four-year journey, the 31-year-old actor has worked in films such as Hasee Toh Phasee, Brothers and Student of the Year among others. Asked why actors only sign one film at a time nowadays, Sidharth stated, “It is very essential as an actor to be a perfectionist and have a knack for doing different roles over a period of time to keep their fans entertained.” He personally likes to focus on one script at a time and do justice to the role and the movie he takes up.



Be it Abhimanyu Singh from Student of the Year, Guru Pratap Singh from Ek Villain or Arjun Kapoor from Kapoor & Sons, Sidharth has mostly essayed roles with a romantic streak. On why today’s films in the romantic genre are not able to outdo Bollywood’s blockbusters of yesteryears, such as Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Maine Pyaar Kiya, Sidharth mentioned, “Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Maine Pyaar Kiya are all-time favourite Bollywood classics. However, we have seen a paradigm shift in the audience preferences for versatile scripts.”

He feels that the audience today is more open to unconventional stories and characters and has the option to explore different content.

Currently, Sidharth is gearing up for his upcoming film Baar Baar Dekho, directed by Nitya Mehra, which also stars actor Katrina Kaif. He will also be seen sharing screen space with actor Jacqueline Fernandez for a yet-to-be-titled film, as well as partake in a remake of the 1969 film Ittefaq.
