LAHORE: Folk singer Shaukat Ali Khan seems to have passed the torch down to his sons who have stepped into the spotlight with their releases. During a press conference at Lahore Press Club on Thursday evening, Shaukat Ali’s younger son Mohsin Shaukat launched the music video of his latest single, titled Assalam-o-Alikum.

A number of celebrities and prominent showbiz personalities attended the event to appreciate the work of the budding singer. Many were delighted to find that he had truly lived up to his father’s name and was following in his footsteps.

Rashid Mehmood, Bahar Begum and Ali Aoun, among others, were present on the occasion.

The video revolves around sentiments of a mother and a father, played by Mehmood and Bahar Begum, whose son has gone abroad to earn a living. It captures their emotions and the feeling of loneliness they experience every time they miss him. With Eidul Fitr right around the corner, the video also shows scenes of the parents longing to see their beloved son on the festival, and on similar occasions every year.

Because the subject was heart-stirring and something many people can relate to, Mohsin’s efforts were thoroughly appreciated by all attendees.

“I have been working on this video for many months and have been waiting for the perfect moment to launch it,” said Mohsin. “Now, with Eid coming up, I felt the time was right. The project has been directed by Ali Aoun and I am immensely grateful to him for his contribution. It is my dream to follow in my father’s footsteps. He is undoubtedly a legend.”

Shaukat Ali expressed his pride and happiness on the occasion. He said that he was pleased to see his sons ready to take his name forward in the industry. “It is indeed a great feeling to see that my sons are doing so well. They have started out at a young age and have grasped the true essence of folk and classical music,” he shared. “I hope that they continue to promote our music abroad. I would like to take this moment to congratulate Mohsin for this wonderful video. Every emotion was captured so well that many in the audience had tears in their eyes while they were watching.”

He added that the younger generation is free to experiment with new forms of music but should never forget about folk music as it is an important part of our culture.

Mehmood also lauded the young singer’s efforts. “Mohsin is a young, gifted individual,” he said. “If he continues to work with the same dedication, I am sure he will soon become one of the shining stars of the country. I salute the contributions that this family has made over the years to our music industry.”

Shaukat Ali’s live performance, upon the request of the attendees, was the highlight of the day.
