Chilean forward Alexis Sanchez said on Thursday that his injured ankle is “much better” despite Twitter pictures showing severe bruising and swelling.

The 27-year-old was the victim of a stamp early on in Chile’s Copa America final against Argentina, however, he stayed on the pitch until shortly before half-time in extra-time. Later, Chile went on to win the match on penalties, successfully defending their Copa America title.

The Arsenal player posted pictures of his ankle on Twitter in the aftermath of the match, and followed it up with further images from his hotel room in New York on Thursday. Despite some gruesome-looking damage, Sanchez gave a positive message regarding the injury.
