‘Multan has the best Ramazan Bazaars’
41 price control magistrates had been inspecting various markets daily
MULTAN:
Minister for Food Bilal Yasin visited Ramazan Bazars in Multan district on Thursday. He was accompanied by DCO Nadir Chattha and City Assistant Commissioner Farooq Dogar.
Yasin said it seemed that the citizens of Multan were enjoying the fruits of the Rs5 billion Ramazan Package announced by the provincial government this year. “The Ramazan Bazars of Multan are the best in the province,” the food minister said.
He said next year, the government would set up air-conditioned Ramazan Bazaars to facilitate shoppers.
The minister visited stalls where flour, sugar, pulses and vegetables were sold and inspected the remaining stock of commodities. He checked the prices of items of daily use and asked shoppers for feedback. “There will be no compromise on the quality of edibles sold here.”
He said the large number of shoppers at Ramazan Bazars was proof of the success of the Punjab government in providing the masses relief. Yasin said commodities were sold at significantly cheaper rates at Ramazan Bazars compared to other markets.
He appreciated the district administration’s foresight in setting up a play-place and swings for children. “Setting up washrooms at Ramazan Bazars is a great step taken by the district government.”
Chattha gave the minister a briefing about prices at Ramazan Bazars. He said 270 shopkeepers had been sent to prison for overcharging. He said 41 price control magistrates had been inspecting various markets daily.
