PESHAWAR:
Elders of North Waziristan elders have asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra to take action against the political agent for making illegal appointments and awarding tenders through unfair means.
Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Thursday, All Parties Political Alliance elder Malak Akbar Khan said the political agent of North Waziristan has appointed his own people in the administration without conducting interviews and advertising vacancies in the newspapers.
He said those appointed through unfair means should immediately be removed and eligible candidates should be appointed on the basis of merit. A large number of elders said tenders for various projects should be advertised through consultation with the tribespeople.
Concerned: Tribal elders postponed sit-in due to PM’s surgery
He said the political agent had implemented vehicle permits for North Waziristan and was collecting money from the people of the war-torn tribal areas. He also accused the political agent of collecting illegal taxes from the tribespeople.
The elders added several people in North Waziristan own non-custom paid vehicles. However, the political agent was forcing them to register these vehicles and was demanding Rs10,000 for the purpose.
The elders urged the government to take action against the political agent or brace itself for a protest against the political administration of North Waziristan after Eidul Fitr.
