LAHORE:
There seems to be an understanding between opposition parties and the government to protect the corrupt system, Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chairman Dr Tahirul Qadri said on Wednesday.

He was talking to a delegation of Mustafavi Students Movement, comprising Tanveer Khan, Chaudhry Irfan Yousaf, Rana Tajammul, Sardar Awais, Younas Naushahi, Mian Ansar and Hafiz Samar Abbas.

The PAT chairman said that the corrupt elements in the avenues of power did everything to protect their rule.

“We staged a sit-in in 2013 against corruption and the cruelty of the rulers. Today, almost all political parties seem to endorse our stance,” Qadri said. He said that PAT had approached the Supreme Court against rigging in elections.

“However, all these had come together to oppose us,” he said.

The PAT chairman said that the same political parties had now expressed lack of trust in the government over the appointment of Election Commission officials.

He said that the sacrifices of people who had lost their lives in the Model Town tragedy would not be wasted.
