Actor-singer Ali Zafar joins Global Teacher Prize Academy
KARACHI:
Singer-actor Ali Zafar said his parents, both of whom are career educationists, helped him achieve greater heights in his career.
Speaking about his joining of the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize Academy, which judges 10 shortlisted teachers in line for the $1 million award, the Rockstar singer said he was taught by some great teachers, including his parents. “Their inspiration helped me achieve what I have. We must always remember that there is always a great teacher, behind the scenes, guiding us forward,” a press release quoted him as saying. “I am delighted and honoured to join the academy. I was in Dubai in March this year for the prize ceremony and was humbled to meet the amazing teachers shortlisted for it.”

While Zafar supports women’s education and empowerment, he feels teachers should be celebrated the way celebrities are. “Teachers should be celebrated like music and film stars. That is why I support the Global Teacher Prize,” he added. “Raising respect and celebrating teachers across the world can fulfil a crucial role in attracting and retaining the most talented candidates into the profession.”
The Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize, now in its third year, is an award that was established to recognise one exceptional teacher who has made an outstanding contribution to the profession.
On the acting front, Zafar is gearing up for the release of his film Walk and Talk that also stars Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt. The Gauri Shinde directorial is set to hit screens later this year.
