Karachi’s crime ‘less than’ major world cities

Administrator Fazlur Rahman has said that Karachi is the heart of Pakistan.

KARACHI:
Administrator Fazlur Rahman has said that Karachi is the heart of Pakistan and that by taking part in the city’s development in a spirit of brotherhood, people of all nationalities are playing their role in promoting national unity.

If this city of 20 million is compared with the world’s major cities with respect to crime, the rate is extremely low. He expressed these thoughts in a speech made at Civic Centre for the arrival of a 54-person media delegation led by Azad Kashmir Minister of Tourism Tahir Khokhar on Tuesday.

Karachi DCO Muhammad Hussain Syed, Municipal Services EDO Masood Alam, Director Media Management Bashir Sadduzai and other officials were also present.

Rahman expressed the hope that the media representatives would take back pleasant memories and a positive impression of their stay in Karachi, and that they would help dispel negative impressions about Karachi through their writings. While speaking to the delegation, DCO Syed said that the city government’s budget had exceeded Rs53 billion and, being a megacity, Karachi needs more funding from the province and the federal centre so that developmental projects can be promoted and the city’s problems brought under control.

DCO Syed also said that if a project for the general welfare of Azad Kashmiris settled in Karachi were to be proposed, the city government would cooperate and that the utmost effort would be made to implement it.
