'Sepco officials are corrupt, give us our electricity back’
Sepco's decision to disconnect Kachcha Bunder residents sparked a protest.
SUKKUR:
Sukkur Electric Power Company’s (Sepco) decision to disconnect Kachcha Bunder residents sparked a protest on Wednesday.
They gathered at Bunder Road and shouted slogans against the power utility. “We are paying our bills regularly so Sepco has no right to disconnect our connections,” complained a protester.
They accused Sepco staff of corruption, saying they provide illegal connections and disconnect electricity for only those who are actually paying their bills.
Sepco Sukkur sub-divisional officer, Kashif Qureshi, told The Express Tribune that electricity to 350 households has been cut because of unpaid bills worth Rs5 million.
He said that more than 225 kundas have also been removed since five to 10 households were using one electricity meter and were not ready to pay.
“The operation took place to recover dues and remove illegal connections in the area,” he said.
