LAHORE: The Lahore commissioner has asked district coordination officer Ahad Cheema to identify at least 100 sites in the city for setting up more mobile dastarkhawans.

Nadeem Hassan Asif was speaking to the City District Government of Lahore (CDGL) officials at a meeting on Wednesday. The sites, he said, should be close to the 71 sites already identified for installing mechanical tandoors. These mobile dastarkhawans would provide a meal (a plate of daal and two rotis) for Rs15 only.

Briefing the commissioner, the CDGL officials said that with the inauguration of a mechanical tandoor in Mian Mir Colony, Dharampura, on Wednesday, the number of mechanical tandoors in the city had increased to 14. They said another 38 mechanical tandoors would start functioning in two weeks’ time.

They told the meeting that there were seven tandoors in Sheikhupura, three in Nankana Sahib and two in Kasur.

Earlier, the commissioner directed the CDGL to contact business community and philanthropists and encourage them to contribute to the cause. He directed the DCO’s staff officer to ensure that the meals were supplied to the mobile dastarkhwans on a regular basis. The commissioner directed that flour supply be started to the tandoors that had obtained electricity, gas and water connections.
