Murder of judge’s parents: Suspects sent to jail on 14-day remand
Third accused to appear in court for further physical remand on Feb 5.
LAHORE:
Judicial Magistrate Izharul Haq Alvi on Wednesday sent Naveed Iqbal and Atif Abbas, the alleged murderers of Justice Javed Iqbal’s parents, to jail on 14-day judicial remand.
Officials of the Model Town Crimes Investigation Agency (CIA) brought the two accused to court amidst tight security. Police did not seek further custody after their 14-day physical remand had ended, so the court sent them to jail, directing prison authorities to produce them again in court by February 16. Earlier, the court granted police 5-day physical remand of the third accused, Amin, who was arrested from Sialkot. He is to appear in court for further physical remand on February 5. Naveed Iqbal is the stepbrother of Justice Javed Iqbal of the Supreme Court. The police threw a press conference claiming that he had confessed during interrogation to murdering his step parents. But in his statement to the court, Iqbal pleaded not guilty. Abbas, his co-accused, confessed to committing the murder, saying it was the first crime he had ever committed.
He also said that he had acted on Naveed Iqbal’s directions and that they had both broken into the victims’ house together.
