Frustrated: Transplant patient commits suicide

LAHORE: A 23-year-old patient admitted to Sheikh Zayed Hospital committed suicide on Monday after jumping of from the second floor. Police said Muhammad Usman, a resident of Charsadda, was being treated at the hospital’s Liver Transplant Unit for the last five days. Muhammad Din, an uncle of the victim, blamed the behavior of doctors for the death. “The doctors had exchanged harsh words with him and then expelled him from the ward. He then committed suicide,” he said. The SHO Muslim Town said the patient was frustrated and wanted to go back home. “He committed suicide when he did not get permission to go home,” he said. Shaikh Zayed Hospital spokesman Muhammad Zahid said that the victim was suffering from Chronic Liver Disease (Budd Chiari Syndrome). “The victim was depressed due to the intensity of the disease. He was insisting on being discharged immediately,” he said. “A three-member inquiry committee has been constituted and will submit its findings within three days,” Zahid said.
